Purpose, Perseverance, and the Beauty of Doing Good Work

We’ve got a secret—sort of.

Not that we’ve been trying to keep it under wraps necessarily, but I couldn’t let more time go by without sharing this company milestone.

insight180 is (quietly) celebrating 25 years in business.

In many ways, it’s a year like any other—projects to guide, brands to clarify, stories to tell. But as a wise friend reminded me, acknowledging milestones matters. They help us pause, take stock, and remember how far we’ve come.

Why Quietly?

Because our work at insight180 has always been about the other.

Our clients’ stories come first. Their websites launch before ours. Their newsletters get finalized long before ours even hits draft mode. We exist to help them shine—and that has always been enough reason to celebrate.

But 25 years? That’s worth an extra toast (and maybe a slice of cake).

First, to say,

First, to say, “Go us!” Because keeping a creative business humming for 25 years is no small feat. We’ve earned a moment to celebrate the late nights, the big ideas, and the countless coffee-fueled brainstorms that got us here.

And second, to say how deeply grateful I am for the team that makes insight180 what it is today: Bethany, Andrea, Elizabeth, and Joann. Admittedly we’ve been graced by many additional talented, creative, generous people over the years—and learned great lessons from others—but this team right now feels united, trusted, and in sync. They’re ridiculously good at what they do, and they bring our shared valuesfun, respect, growth, flexibility, and purpose—to life every single day.

A Decade of Change and Growth

This year also marks another milestone: ten years since I bought out my former business partner.

It was a big, unexpected shift at the time, but one that opened space for incredible growth. Looking back, it feels like the moment I truly stepped into the role of creative director and brand strategist, not just as a practitioner, but as a leader. I learned how to navigate uncertainty, how to trust my instincts, and how to rebuild a culture rooted in both excellence and kindness.

Those lessons shaped who we are today.

From “Smart Designers” to Brand Guides

In the early days, we were primarily designers, this was pre-websites mind you—churning out brochures, print newsletters, signage, and logos. But something interesting kept happening. Clients started calling us “the smart designers.”

You see, we weren’t just making things look good—we were writers, too. With backgrounds in literature, theatre, and communications, we naturally looked for story, clarity, and meaning. We proofread. Asked questions. We offered copy edits. And improvements were made. And those small moments of added value led us deeper into the world of brand strategy, messaging, and differentiation.

Over time, that curiosity became our craft. Today, we help mission-driven B2B companies and nonprofits clarify who they are, define what makes them different, and express it all with integrity, creativity, and meaning.

We’ve built processes that reliably help uncover the soul of an organization—their why—and align their brand from the inside out. And then we’ve shown the brand in action through beautiful design.

That’s the work that fuels us.

What 25 Years Have Taught Me

Looking back, a few guiding principles stand out. Some are simple. Some took years to learn. All of them still hold true.

  • Embrace new technologies. They are challenging at first, but ultimately they pay off.
  • Say no to what doesn’t resonate. Every “no” makes space for the right “yes.”
  • Know what you value—and honor it. Boundaries are good. Integrity is non-negotiable.
  • Choose clients and collaborators who align with your purpose. Shared values make for better work and happier humans.
  • Stand behind your team. Trust them, support them, and let them shine.
  • Find the joy. Even on hard days, celebrate that we know how to get through challenges.
  • Have a life outside of work. And, literally get outside. Step away and breathe.
  • It’s okay to rest. Creativity needs a little downtime.
  • Give back. The more you contribute to your community, the more connected you feel to the world around you.

Why We Still Love What We Do

At its heart, our work is about helping others find their voice and show up with confidence and authenticity. That never gets old.

Every project reminds us of the power of clarity, the importance of purpose, and the quiet joy of helping good people do great things. We still believe branding isn’t about ego—it’s about alignment. It’s about telling the truth beautifully.

So yes, we’ve been quietly celebrating.

But as I look back on 25 years, what I feel most is gratitude. I’m grateful for the clients who trust us, for the team that inspires me daily, and for the simple, lasting privilege of doing work that matters.

Here’s to the next chapter—continuing to lead with curiosity, heart, and meaning.

Here’s to doing good work. Together.
